  • FOUR MORE HEAD OF LIVESTOCK KILLED BY WOLVES IN GRAND COUNTY

    A wolf (or wolves) has killed four more head of livestock in Grand County. That’s according to Grand County Commissioner Merrit Linke this morning, and confirmed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife this afternoon. Three yearlings were killed Monday night or early Tuesday morning, and another was killed Wednesday night. That’s four more animals killed by wolves.

  • Four more cattle killed by wolves in Grand County

    According Grand County Commissioner Merrit Linke, a wolf or wolves also recently injured a calf in Jackson County. The calf lived, and Linke said the rancher is doctoring the calf in the hope that it will survive. Parks and Wildlife officials stated that the incident occurred April 13 and that wildlife officers who responded to the scene confirmed the depredation.

    The Granby Board of Trustees met Tuesday, March 26, at Granby Town Hall. The Grand County Board of County Commissioners began the meeting with a presentation to the town board.

    County commissioners Richard Cimino, Merrit Linke and Randy George were all in attendance at the meeting. The commissioners had been meeting with the towns in Grand County to discuss potentially having the county submit a federal mineral estate withdrawal.

  • Colorado ranchers raise concerns after second wolf depredation

    Dozens of Colorado ranchers voiced their concerns and questions to wildlife officials on Tuesday after learning of a second calf killed by one or more of the recently reintroduced wolves in the state.

    The meeting was slated for an hour and a half but lasted almost three hours instead.

    Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed different wolves that were part of the 10 reintroduced to Colorado in December 2023 killed the two calves.

    “106 days later, we have our first kill. A week after that, we have a second kill,” Grand County Commissioner Merrit Linke said. “It’s frustrating.”
